Sunderland Arts and Culture Trail brings together local artists, businesses, and cultural points of interest, in a self-guided walking tour of one of the North East's finest cities.

This free event, gives you the opportunity to experience some of the regions finest contemporary artists and performers, hosted by local businesses and cultural venues and guides you around some of the city's rich heritage.

Sunderland Arts and Culture Trail 2024 is currently in the initial planning phase and we are now looking for host venues and creative practitioners to take part.

Our 2023 Trail

The team at Sunderland Arts and Culture Trail love art and all our team members this year are practicing artists who are at the forefront of contemporary art in Sunderland. Our collective ethos revolves around the belief that art, in whatever form we choose to make it, is as important today as it has ever been and is as important as it was in stone age times.

Our programme this year places a focus on visual artists who will be sharing paintings and sculptural works with the visitors of each venue and as we love our art so much, we would like to share it with you. We believe that art, in all its forms, is a vital form of communication and it should be seen, touched, felt, and heard.

Human creativity is the gift that keeps on giving and The City of Sunderland has a wealth of arts and culture which is impossible to ignore. We have chosen some great artists to partner with fantastic venues around the city to help you discover the best of what Sunderland has to offer.

Art is here because we've always had it. Even in caves.
